About Wah Hing Restaurant

Gouger Street’s longtime Cantonese heavyweight delivers wok-fired classics with serious craft and zero fuss. Chef Simon runs the kitchen himself, sending out multi-course Peking duck—crackling skin tucked into thin pancakes, followed by duck soup and duck fried rice. Regulars head straight for the spicy XO steak and salt and pepper eggplant, while floor staff keep wine glasses topped even through the peak Saturday dinner rush. Sizzling beef arrives smoking hot at the table, seasoned with deep wok hei.

  • Multi-Course Peking Duck: Crisp skin with steamed pancakes, followed by duck soup and savory duck fried rice.
  • Owner-Chef Kitchen: Chef Simon personally helms the kitchen, maintaining familiar family-run hospitality for decades.
  • Signature Wok Specialties: Wok-tossed plates including spicy XO steak, sizzling beef, and crisp salt and pepper eggplant.

From sizzling beef to authentic seafood, dishes consistently display quality ingredients and authentic technique praised by Cantonese cuisine connoisseurs.

I'm just a loyal customer, of what I consider to be fantastic Cantonese food in Adelaide (I was raised in Hong Kong and know the difference).

  • Traditional multi-course Peking duck

A multi-course duck preparation highlighting crispy skin, pancakes, soup, and fried rice creates a true banquet centerpoint.

Peking duck: the skin was really crispy, and the meat was tender. Maybe not enough pancakes. One of the better Peking ducks here in Adelaide! The duck soup was nice, and the duck fried rice was tasty.

Diners return consistently for classic signature preparations like Wah Hing chicken, BBC, and taro duck.

The BBC and Wah Hing chicken are absolute must-tries and never disappoint.

Before you head over

Practical advice on timing, ordering, and banquet courses for your visit to Gouger Street.

  • Allow Time for the Peking Duck Course Experience

The Peking duck is served as a traditional multi-course banquet feast featuring pancakes, soup, and fried rice. Because dishes are prepared across distinct stages rather than all at once, budget sufficient dining time to enjoy the full sequence.

  • Plan Ahead for Busy Peak Weekend Dinners

Saturday dinners and peak evening services get heavily packed. While walk-in parties can occasionally be accommodated, securing a table ahead of time or arriving right as dinner begins helps avoid waiting during peak rushes.

  • Order Family-Style to Sample Signature House Specialties

The kitchen offers specialized Cantonese signatures like Chef Simon's BBC, Wah Hing chicken, and taro duck alongside traditional beef and seafood dishes, making family-style sharing the best way to sample house recipes.
