About Salam Charcoal Kebab House

Charcoal smoke and spiced rice define the feast at this Gilles Plains corner—built on generous platters of skewered lamb, juicy chicken, and fresh Afghan comfort. While rotisseries churn next door, the grill here imparts deep, unmistakable char. Regulars swear by the bolani—warm flatbread tucked with savory greens and herbs—alongside delicate manto dumplings dressed in yogurt and meat sauce. End the meal over a hot pot of black or green tea.

  • Charcoal-Grilled Skewers: Skewers of spiced lamb backstrap and chicken are seared directly over coals, served alongside aromatic rice and house chilli sauce.
  • Traditional Bolani & Manto: Homestyle Afghan staples feature thin herb-stuffed bolani flatbread and delicate, well-packed manto dumplings.
  • Pots of Fresh Tea: Diners wind down generous platters with steaming pots of complimentary or low-cost green and black tea.

  • Flavourful Charcoal-Grilled Skewers

Skewers of lamb and chicken are cooked directly over charcoal embers to achieve tender meat, balanced spices, and distinct char.

The charcoal-grilled lamb and chicken were absolutely delicious, the rice was perfectly cooked, and the hot sauce was the first in Australia to taste exactly as it should.

  • Hearty Mixed Grill Servings

Mixed kebab platters and grilled cuts come in hearty portions matched with fragrant, seasoned rice.

The mixed grill plate is sensational and when it’s served, you’ll think that you won’t be able to get through all of it but I bet you will!

  • Authentic Afghan Homestyle Specialties

Beyond flame-grilled meats, the kitchen prepares authentic Afghan comfort staples like freshly made herb-filled bolani flatbread and savoury manto dumplings.

The biryani was good but the manto dumplings and the bolani were far tastier than in some of the other Afghani restaurants.
