If the crop is late, make the drive worthwhile with a nearby village, market or short garden visit. Check the farm's rules on outside food and how it charges for fruit you take home.

Can we pick cherries or blueberries on a day trip from Adelaide in early December?
We will have a rental car but would prefer to keep the drive to roughly an hour each way.

The Adelaide Hills is the first area I would search for a short drive. Book or call before setting off, ask whether children need tickets, and bring sun protection and closed shoes.

Treat fruit picking as a seasonal plan, not a guaranteed stop. Check each farm's current opening notice and whether it offers pick-your-own on your date; crop readiness and weather can change both fruit and hours.
